Special Session 1:

From Data to Insight: Big Data and Analytics for Smart Manufacturing Systems

Oct 29-30, Santa Clara, CA
Special Session 1
Advanced manufacturing includes not only the assembly of products on the shop floor but also a wide variety of complex processes involving quality control, predictive maintenance, resource management, controlling, and customer engagement. Thus, an advanced manufacturing system requires capabilities and technologies for designing and improving the overall system performance through diagnostic and prognostic assessment based on (big) data analytics. The use of (big) data analytics in manufacturing can lead to new insights and knowledge discovery that can help enhance sustainability, productivity, flexibility, reduce costs, gain competitive advantages and, thus, enable sustainable and agile manufacturing.
While there has been a plethora of research and publications in emergent domains such as recommendation systems, social media, and health care, ironically, there is a marked absence of a special interest research group for big data analytics and data-mining in the long established domains such as manufacturing. This special session aims to fill this gap. Specifically, the goal is to bring together leading practitioners from the industry, academia, and government to address common issues and specific challenges, collaborate and nurture manufacturing innovation using Big Data Analytics for design, manufacturing, post-manufacturing and reuse phases for Advanced Manufacturing Systems.
This special session will focus on pressing issues in research, implementation technology, and interoperability and standards for big data in advanced manufacturing and to foster a community for rapid advancement in this field. The organizers of the special session on From Data to Insight: Big Data and Analytics for Smart Manufacturing Systems (http://cci.drexel.edu/bigdata/bigdata2015/#SpecialSession) and workshop on Big Data for Advanced Manufacturing (http://ieeebdam15.stanford.edu/) will hold this joint session at the IEEE Big Data Conference 2015 (http://cci.drexel.edu/bigdata/bigdata2015/). Special Session 2:

Intelligent Mining

Recent developments in processing, storing, and sharing huge amount of data become problematic due to the lack of new approaches, techniques, methods, algorithms and technologies. Researchers try to find proper solutions based on their experiences and make contributions to current data mining and classification knowledge. This approach actually causes new problems due to the missing theoretical notions, lack of necessary disciplines and insufficient awareness on data security, information retrieval, social networking within behavioral and social issues on human nature. This special session traces the gap between big data, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and data mining.
The AI & ML fields are interdisciplinary, including computer science, mathematics, psychology, linguistics, philosophy and neuroscience. There is no software or hardware available to solve problems like human’s do. Researchers only make assumptions to replicate biological architectures. So, the brain is capable of change and recognizes experiences. Every day, there are more than 7 billion people works for processing limitless number of data like a single computer through sophisticated cloud network. Each brain has own big data warehouse and biological CPU. This is what we called knowledge.
Nowadays, researchers use interdisciplinary way to understand knowledge among all types of resource including data, document, tool, device, experience, process and people. This approach may help to understand biological evolution to propose robust and powerful approaches between human nature and big data processing.
Intelligent Mining term is not only related to Computer Science. This special session opens to every researcher as well as industrial partners to make contribution.
The aims of this Special Session on Intelligent Mining are to:
    •     Bring researchers and experts together to discuss and share their experiences
    •     Share the current and new research topics and ideas,
    •     Improve and enhance personal, enterprise, national and international awareness,
    •     Provide a platform to present and discuss recent advancements,
    •     Increase international collaborations among university–industry-institutions,

in the fields of theory and applications of data mining, artificial intelligence, computer science, mathematics, psychology, linguistics, philosophy and neuroscience to discuss better understanding of big data and intelligence.
